Ford Ranger V8 Swap
September 2020
I have always been interested all things cars and trucks. This project was a fantastic way for me to further my knowledge of small vehicle drivetrains.

I used a 1999 Ford Explorer with a 5.0L V8 and 4R70W automatic transmission as a donor vehicle for my personal vehicle, a 2007 3.0L Ford Ranger. Over the course of 4 weekends and a handful of late nights during the 2020 Fall semester, I removed both powertrains and reinstalled the V8 powertrain back into the Ranger. After 2 weeks of minor troubleshooting to fix drivability issues, the vehicle was reliable enough to be daily driven again.

This project taught me a considerable amount about Ford engine control systems and how to troubleshoot problems in complex electromechanical systems.
